Educate, Commemorate, and Celebrate.

The Juneteenth Community Consortium is an association of organizations in the Greater Williamsburg Area that organized with a common goal to educate, commemorate, and celebrate the end of slavery in America.

OUR VISION

Look Back, Look Around, Look Within, and Move Forward

Juneteenth is a time to educate, commemorate, celebrate and reflect on the Black experience in America. By looking back, looking around, and looking within, we are challenged to evaluate the foundations of inequality and move forward together, committing ourselves to the unfinished work of eradicating systemic racism.

WHAT WE DO

In 2022, several non-profit groups, educational institutions, local governments, businesses, and other community organizations within Greater Williamsburg formed the Juneteenth Community Consortium. The participating organizations are among many planning their own exciting events during this special weekend. The consortium exists to coordinate programming and avoid scheduling conflicts among the events planned during the Juneteenth weekend. This website houses information about the organizations and their planned programming while providing a one-stop online resource to help visitors plan their Juneteenth activities this year.

WHO WE ARE

Many members of the Juneteenth Community Consortium represent organizations doing year-round social justice work throughout the community. Everyone involved, however, volunteers their time and resources to coordinate community-wide Juneteenth events for this annual celebration. This is an open group that values diverse perspectives and inclusive conversations. Below is a list of organizations comprising the consortium’s membership.

There is no cost for participation in the consortium except the use of your time and talent to support Juneteenth activities. If your organization is interested in joining the conversation and planning future events, please send an email to Juneteenthcommunityconsortium@gmail.com. We would love to have your voice in the conversation.
